If a person wishes to adopt an abandoned dog and/or cat and chooses the Animal Shelter (CAA) of the Consorci de la Ribera and the Mancomunitat de Municipis de la Safor, they must follow the adoption protocol below:
- How to contact us:
- By phone: call the Administration office (+34 661 019 840) from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday to Friday. During this initial contact, a brief interview will be conducted, and you will be asked to follow up by email at caa-info@consorcidelaribera.com.
- By email: contact us directly at our adoption email address: caa-adopciones@consorcidelaribera.com.
- After the first contact, whether by phone or email, applicants will receive a pre-adoption questionnaire to ensure the adoption is successful and that the relationship between adopter and animal is the best possible. This helps us better understand the family and their needs, allowing us to match them with the animal that best fits their lifestyle.
- Once it is confirmed that the adoption is suitable, a date and time will be arranged for the first meeting between the adopter and the animal. The appointment will depend on the availability of both the adopting family and the centre.
- Adoption contract:
The adopter must be of legal age and present a valid ID card or passport. In the case of potentially dangerous dogs (PPP), the adopter will be required to prove that they are a suitable person to adopt dogs of these breeds or characteristics. - Animal care and conditions:
All our animals, provided their age allows it, leave the centre with identification, vaccinations, deworming, and sterilisation, in accordance with current legislation. In the case of puppies or kittens where the full vaccination/deworming schedule cannot yet be completed, there are two options: The adopters return to the centre to complete the vaccination/deworming schedule, or They complete it at their trusted veterinary clinic, under the supervision of the CAA. For animals under 30 days old (nursing), the adopter will be responsible for the vaccination/deworming protocol through their trusted veterinary clinic. - In all cases where animals are adopted before they are old enough to receive a microchip, they are handed over with a commitment from the adopter to complete identification through a veterinary clinic. This commitment is included in the adoption contract. Except for the cases mentioned above, after adoption, owners are responsible for all future veterinary expenses.
- Priority criteria:
- If both a foster family and another applicant are interested in the same animal, priority will be given to the foster family.
- If two suitable families are interested in the same animal, priority will be given to the one who made contact first.
- Adoption fees:
The fees at the time of adoption correspond to veterinary care and services: €87 for animals that are neutered, identified, vaccinated, and dewormed. Geriatric animals benefit from a reduced fee. - International adoptions:
For adoptions to other countries or to regions of Spain outside the Valencian Community, information about the necessary procedures must be requested in the initial contact email or questionnaire.
